Promed International & Sydney Water
Overhaul the Promed International Rescue’s communication system by changing their legacy analogue communications systems to a modern and dynamic digital based technology solution.
Promed Internationals Communication & Rescue Division is a third party supplier for Sydney Water. They supply supporting communications, logistics and rescue services for teams surveying underground sewer and storm water tunnels throughout the Sydney Catchment. Previously they had been using a legacy analogue communications system that was troublesome, difficult to scale, could not work across multiple sites, and was unable to be integrated with new technology. This old equipment could have potentially put their crews in a hazardous situation in the event of an underground incident.
The original digital equipment supplier was unable to integrate the solution to the required WH&S standards and reliability required by Promed International causing them to lose tenders which they were more than capable of supplying. The supplier contacted Rising Connection for assistance and acknowledging it was too hard for them to do and not in their scope of work.
THE SOLUTION USED
Rising Connection had to dismantle the whole system that the original supplier provided, reverse engineer all the concepts, and rebuild it from the ground up. Additional features were added to improve the system improving the stability in order to make the solution more flexible and scalable. A whole new concept was necessary to fix the system, and was created while retaining the outside appearance of the system.
Rising Connection was able to deliver a dynamically flexible communications system that uses a modern digital technology. It can be dropped and rolled out while live, across multiple tunnel locations, riddled with curves and bends that are more than two kilometres long. The new system has proved to be reliable and assured consistent communication between the above-ground and below-ground teams. The underground teams are now able to be accurately tracked, allowing for accurate live updates and status reports.
As part of the redesign, the solution now incorporates the ability to support live stream video feeds from the below ground teams to the supporting surface teams and specialists within the head office. This real time assessment of the underground traverse can expedite rescue in the case of an incident by providing the Incident Commander and above ground rescue teams with visual information, enabling them to act quickly.
The team at Rising Connection went to amazing lengths to help understand the challenges and find a solution for us to use, we look forward to an ongoing relationship as we growHugh & Sean
